Financial Fundamentals

The objective of this course is to give you a baseline knowledge of the basic financial principles of money management.  You will learn about financial concepts and put them into practice through out the course.   You will develop and strengthen your skills with exercises that apply to your situation, making the learning experience personal. At the end of this course you will have a solid foundation to continue build your financial knowledge and skill sets.

The course is divided into 5 sessions.

  1. Money Talks- You will explore your relationship with money. Why you do the things you do and how to identify behaviors that have positive and negative impacts on your bottom line.
  2. Money Management-You will explore the basic principles of money  management such as, differentiating between wants and needs, effective budgeting, how your values impact your financial decisions.
  3. Savings and Investing- you will review the basic principles of investing, including risk and return, become familiar with saving and investment tools, and understand the impact of simple and compound  interest. 
  4. Understanding and UsingCredit- You will understand the cost, advantages and disadvantages go using credit, learn how to read a credit report, understand credit scoring and how lenders evaluate risk.  You will also learn how to access your capacity to pay back before you borrow.
  5. Protecting Yourself and Your Assets- You will explore  ways to maintain an effective and secure financial record keeping system, recognize Identity fraud and steps to resolved fraudulent use of your identity, and understand the role if insurance in managing risk.
